Recent changes in the worldwide car industry and their implications for international standards needed for the development of vehicles integrated with intelligent transport systems (ITS) is the focus of a workshop on 6 March 2013 at the Geneva International Motor Show, Switzerland.

The Fully Networked Car Workshop (FNC), now in its eighth year, is an annual event organized by the World Standards Cooperation (WSC), a strategic partnership of the International Electrotechnical Committee (IEC), International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Last year, the event attracted more than 100 experts from around the world who discussed the need for standards for electric vehicles, how to avoid driver distraction, increased vehicle safety, and ITS communications and systems. The 2013 FNC workshop will cover further developments in these areas, including panel discussions on the following subjects:

  • A manufacturer's view on recent industry changes and current needs for standardization
  • Where is the networked car going?
  • Challenges in technology and applications for the networked car

Speakers already confirmed come from the following organizations: SAE, Dekra, Bosch and Ygomi LLC.

The contributions and expertise provided by the panellists and the audience will help foster a better understanding of the challenges the auto industry faces over the coming years, and how international standards can help the industry to continue to meet customer needs.

This year's workshop will once again be moderated by Richard Parry-Jones, a former executive with the Ford Motor Company, recognized as an industry "guru".
